Founded in 2019, we are a farm animal rescue and sanctuary located on 20 acres in Darlington, Pennsylvania, approximately 50 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh.

Who We Are

Kindred Spirits Rescue Ranch was founded in 2019 by Lisa Marie and John Sopko. Shortly after they started taking in abandoned domestics ducks in need of homes on the property they share with their dogs and two horses, a friend suggested that this undertaking with rescued ducks was the start of an animal rescue and sanctuary and encouraged them to start a 501c3 non-profit organization. As soon as Kindred Spirits Rescue Ranch became a non-profit charity and word got out, humane officers from around the region began to call, seeking a safe place for abused and neglected farmed animals to stay. In turn, a great need was found for placement for abandoned, abused, neglected, and unwanted farm animals. As of the 3 year anniversary of KSRR’s founding, the sanctuary is home to approximately 200 animals, and our volunteers have assisted in countless humane seizure rescues and captures of abandoned domestic animals whose lives were in danger in the wild. We do not have any paid staff, and we do not pay ourselves. We do not receive any government funding to care for animals seized under humane law. We rely on the hard work and good will of volunteers and the generosity of individual donors, like yourself, to care for all of these amazing animals and continue to save lives. We greatly appreciate all of your support in all forms… it takes a village to provide sanctuary and rescue, and we could not do it without you!

FAQ

Where do your animals come from?

Our animals have come to Kindred Spirits Rescue Ranch from a number of different situations (such as domestic ducks and geese that were dumped in the wild; abandoned peacocks and guinea fowl), but the majority of the animals came here as humane cases (severely abused and neglected animals who were seized by humane law officers) and became permanent residents after their cases were settled in court.

Can I come and visit the animals?

Kindred Spirits Rescue Ranch is not open to the public. It is the animals’ home. For the safety of the animals and the public, only volunteers can be on the property unless otherwise arranged, such as events and tour dates. For more information on tours, please click here.

Do you adopt out your animals?

At this time, our animals are considered permanent residents, and they are not available for adoption.

Do you rescue or provide sanctuary for dogs, cats, or wildlife?

We only work with farmed animals and a few exotics, such as peacocks. We cannot assist with placement of dogs and cats. We do not rehabilitate or provide sanctuary to wildlife, however, we do have volunteers who are licensed for capture and transport and have some expertise in wildlife health and safety. We suggest calling Wildlife in Need PA (814-414-4224) or your nearest licensed wildlife rehabilitator with emergencies related to injured, sick, or otherwise jeopardized wild animals.
